The path to sponsorship

Umweltstiftung Greenpeace uses the income generated by its endowment fund to promote initiatives and activities dedicated to nature and environmental protection and to advance peace work. We support Greenpeace campaigns as well as projects conducted by other organizations around the world—regardless of whether they are one-off initiatives or long-term projects.

The decision to sponsor a project is made based on its compliance with formal criteria and the quality and substance of the project proposal. We also strive for a balanced distribution of projects across our various special funds. This could lead to the occasional rejection of a project idea—even if it aligns with our goals—due to ongoing support for a similar project through one of our special funds at the time of proposal. Furthermore, Umweltstiftung’s annual funding is limited, which could also result in the rejection of certain projects.

From idea to project

The sponsorship process generally consists of two stages. In the initial step, you introduce your project idea to us. Use our contact form to provide a brief description. Before you do this, please determine whether your project meets the content and formal criteria for our sponsorship.

If we decide to partner with you, the next step will involve drafting the official application for sponsorship with our assistance. You will be required to provide specific information on your objectives, the target groups, the anticipated impact of your project, as well as a detailed budget and timeline. Your sponsorship application will then undergo a multi-stage approval process.

A step-by-step guide

Once your project is approved, you can immediately start work. You will be assigned a dedicated point of contact for the duration of the sponsorship. Depending on the project and its duration, you will be required to communicate regularly with us to share updates on the project’s progress, current developments, and any emerging challenges. Any significant changes to the project must be communicated and discussed with us. For example, if funds are to be used other than as initially planned, additional costs arise, or the duration of the project is extended.

Once the project is completed, we will conduct a joint evaluation. Were you able to achieve your goals? What impact did your project have? What went well and what could have been better? This will give you the opportunity to reflect upon and document your experiences and insights. Moreover, we will use your feedback to improve our own work.
